Re: How NOT to apply for a Job - NOT FAKE
08/01/07
Regarding the post we made about Amir Saffar the job applicant from Canada.
After this article made the homepage of Digg.com a lot of the comments left on the Digg site suggested the article was a fake and that this blog and the company involved had come up with some hairbrained scheme to try and get some cheap traffic. So to clarify the situation the Editor of TheDubaiLife.com contacted the company North 55 to find out more.
Having contacted the company and person in question Mike Platts he has confirmed that the correspondence wasn't a fake and 100% genuine. He has also said he never posted the email himself on the Internet but he merely sent the email conversation to friends in the industry to make them aware of this particular person. So this is was in no way a cheap stunt to get more traffic to their site.
Below is a partial quote from the email conversation we had:
"So, yes, the emails were 100% genuine. You're right in saying that this kind of attitude is all-too prevalent in this region, and while some
commentators have questioned my 'professionalism' in dealing with Amir in the way I did, I reserve the right to treat bigots like him with the disdain and disrespect they deserve. That said, I don't take much pleasure in seeing the amount of exposure the issue has received outside of the local design community - the intention was never to ruin the guy's long term job prospects, just to let him know that I took offense at the way he presented himself to what is a very multi-cultural company."
I think this should clear up any misconceptions many people had about the genuineness of the post.
