Sustainable desert cities the way forward for Dubai

Green is the new black , it is Vouge to be 'Green' even better if you are 'Eco' too it's the buzz word of a more Environmentally conscious world. Dubai would be the last place you would put in the same sentance as sustainable City. Dubai devours anything Chic and hip but doesn't take too kindly to many other things, however not one but 2 concept cities for the UAE have been created by local architect firm X-Architects.

The first project is known as Garden City described on their own website as

"The Garden was born in the desert. An isolated anamoly in an otherwise dry and uninhabitable environment, they become sources of life, allowing for settlements to develop, and inhabitation of the hostile weather possible." It will take life from the Desert and use the power of the heat and sun to power the City.

The second such development also designed by X-Architects named XERITOWN , and this one is a little more developed in terms of it'd design and planning. This city has been widely reported on other blogs one such blog is Jetson Green and a quote from that site sums up the ethos of Xeritown.

"Designed by X-Architects, Xeritown was designed, first, with the environment in mind and, second, with environmental attributes. Flat circles will hang over street walkways and photovoltaics will be placed on the circles to collect solar energy. A major aim of the project will also be to conserve ecological resources such as water, soil, flora, and fauna.

The city will only have two lanes for vehicles, so mass transportation will be the major mode of movement for inhabitants. Looking at the images below, you can imagine a realistic Xeritown with walkable, lively streets and people meandering among cafes, shops, shade, and benches. "
