Forum highlighted Dubai eGovernment’s role in providing basic public services

November 17, 2008: Dubai eGovernment announced its support to the Success Forum 2008, which was held at the Mina A’ Salam Hotel, Dubai, on November 11-12, 2008. The forum offered a unique platform to highlight the invaluable contributions and achievements of the UAE in various fields, with the aim of encouraging the younger generations to face the future challenges and strive for excellence. Dubai eGovernment had also provided its support to the inaugural edition of the Success Forum last year.

By participating in the event, Dubai eGovernment aimed at throwing light on its achievements, including its comprehensive system for electronic governance in Dubai. During the Forum, Dubai eGovernment likewise offered its best practices and strategies, allowing participants to benefit from its experience as a success-driven organisation.

Moza Al Akraf, Acting Director of eServices, Dubai eGovernment, said: “We in Dubai eGovernment are pleased to continue our commitment to the Success Forum as we believe that this initiative provides a suitable venue to encourage individuals and organisations to achieve success in all their endeavours. The success story of Dubai eGovernment in harnessing the potential of electronic governance and making it a concrete contributor to the progress of the entire emirate was highly appreciated by the participants in the forum.”

Al Akraf added that Dubai eGovernment’s projects shown during the forum helped familiarise the public with many significant basic services., specially the recently launched “mPay,” using SMS, which was a fast online payment channel designed by Dubai eGovernment for fast and urgent processes, which enables individuals to pay through mobile devices for government fees in Dubai. The new payment scheme that went live this year has been part of an ongoing programme to increase online adoption of government services, helped improve performance and enhance customer satisfaction within all government departments.

Editor’s Note:

Dubai eGovernment is a pioneering initiative in the region to provide online services across the spectrum of corporate and community life in the emirate. It also has a vision to integrate individually automated government departments under the single umbrella of the eGovernment initiative, thus empowering employees across lines of businesses and levels of government, besides facilitating the lives of citizens and customers of the government. Dubai has taken a lead in the region in deploying eGovernment applications and is among the first few governments in the world to provide such integrated services to its citizens. The eGovernment portal (www.dubai.ae) is a single contact point masking the complexity of the bureaucratic procedures, and guiding access to all services in the easiest possible way. In addition, the eGovernment initiative seeks to improve and enhance procedures by maximizing the benefit from technology, so that users from all walks of life will be able to utilize the portal for their specific needs with considerable ease.
