World’s tallest tower with a twist to be built at Dubai Marina

Sunday, 13 November 2005 No Comment

Dubai has witnessed the launch of a revolutionary tower for the construction industry in the Middle East.

The launch of ‘Infinity’ which took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel saw guests enjoy a lavish reception including a spectacular fireworks display which lit up the sky in the exact location of the soon to be built tower, in Dubai Marina.

Infinity Tower, which will stand 80 stories high, is anticipated to be a dominant feature on Dubai Marina’s landscape. Towering above its neighbours, Infinity at 330 meters will be distinct not only for its height but primarily for its architectural prowess – it will be the world’s tallest tower to feature a 90 degree twist, a masterpiece of contemporary style and spiraling design.

Kareem Derbas CEO Palma Real Estate commented,

‘We are really excited about this project, to be part of the team responsible for creating such a landmark building is a real honour. A lot of time and effort has been invested by all parties in getting to this stage, with several strategic meetings throughout last year in both Chicago, the home of Skidmore Owings and Merril (SOM) our architects and Dubai. Many developers have contributed to Dubai’s fast growing skyline but Infinity will be a true first for the region.’

The architectural landmark, for which piling and foundation work has already begun, will be dedicated to the luxury residential apartments, lofts and penthouses. Cayan are acting as the real estate developer for the project with sister company Palma Real Estate responsible for the sales and marketing function.

Located opposite Grosvenor House and at the beginning of the Dubai Marina, Infinity will boast one of Dubai Marina’s most sought after locations. Whichever side of the building; the unique design will afford each apartment a staggering view of Palm Island, the Arabian Gulf, and or the Marina.

Ahmed Al Hatti, CEO of Cayan stated, ‘Infinity is going to be an outstanding building not only in terms of its architectural significance but it will also deliver an excellent quality of living for all of its residents.’

Indeed plans for the residences reveal opulent interiors; architectural open-space design has been implemented to ensure a minimum of pillars, providing a true sense of space and light. Floor to ceiling windows compliment the contemporary design, whilst fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms using quality materials will offer a luxurious standard of living. In addition to the décor Infinity’s loft apartments will provide unique designs for modern comfort. Available in one, two and three bedrooms, the lofts will offer bright and spacious split level living with magnificent panoramic views.

In addition to its quality build and design, Infinity will ensure that any resident can enjoy the most modern and extravagant amenities. A drop off Infinity pool complete with whirlpool and kid’s pool will provide an excellent location for relaxation whilst those looking for a workout can utilize the state of the art gymnasium. Infinity will also offer a nursery, conference room facility, tennis court and luxury spa.

To achieve such a complex and unusual design Skidmore Owings and Merril (SOM) were chosen as architectural partners. World renowned and dedicated to standards of excellence, the company has worked on many global landmark projects including the much hyped Burj Dubai. Whilst creating such a radical and technically advanced design, SOM have placed a huge emphasis on safety and stability. The structural system for the tower is high strength with a reinforced concrete column superstructure that rotates with the twisting shape to create a helix. In addition each floor will accommodate a 1.2 degree twist to achieve the full 90 degree spiral.
