Kashmir Recieves First Flight From … Dubai!

Sunday, 15 February 2009 No Comment

Surreal as it seems but disputed region Indian Kashmir opened its high-security airport to international traffic and the first flight it recieved was from, you’ve guessed it, Dubai. Later on, around 30 Kashmirirs went to Dubai. You couldn’t make it up.

It also seems that Dubai si the only place you can go from Kashmir, initially, there will be a flight between Dubai and Srinagar every Saturday, India’s civil aviation minister Praful Patil, before going on to say: “We will surely extend the service to other parts of the world.”

Now let’s take a step back here a moment folks. A region which is currently disputed and in a part of the world where terrorism is seen as a major problem, is trying to encorage tourism? Then there’s Dubai, whose gambled all its future on tourism. It makes you wonder, what the world did before tourism? What if… people stopped visiting these places? What woudl they do?
