High Tech Rugby Sevens Comes To Dubai

Tuesday, 3 March 2009 No Comment

It is that time again the Rugby Sevens is coming to Dubai, it is a major sporting even (in our opnion at least) and showcases the ability of Dubai to host other events in the future.

As with all modern life it is necessary to always push the boundaries to find better ways of doing things, sport is no exception especially if you’re the England Sevens team.  They will be using new GPS gadgets strapped to the players during training so the players clubs back in England can track exactly what the players have been upto whilit in Dubai.
“We are very mindful that the lads are on loan from the clubs and that we rely on the cooperation of those clubs to field competitive teams and the GPS system, which is taped to the back of their necks, does a great job for us in just showing everybody exactly what we do,” England sevens coach Ben Ryan said. “It is the one of the few pieces of modern-day sports science gizmos that really adds value.

“We can collect data on every session and tell the clubs back home exactly what work their players have been doing rather than just rely on our say so. Their fitness people can then look at the information and plan their training accordingly when they get back.”

Maybe footballers should do the same thing.
